Here’s a simple idea which could make a dramatic impact on your fundraising this year. Why not try spreading your net a little wider and fundraise direct from the general public. The more people you reach, the larger the amount you could raise. But I’m not talking about standing in a shopping street. Homes we’ve spoken to have had limited success by standing at railway stations or high streets with collection boxes.
What works and what doesn’t
If you want to raise £2,000 for a few hours work(as done by my daughters primary school for example), What you need to do is catch the public when they’re more relaxed rather than when they’re rushing to get somewhere.
And the ideal location
Ideal venues are Parties in the park; Music events at stately homes and even sporting events – such as cricket or football matches (lower divisions work better than premiership games).
Organisers seem happy to allow you free access for a small band of volunteers. And think big- don’t use the small handheld collection, use buckets and collect at half time. As ever be careful over personal security and let us know how you get on.
